ONLY 12 SAWMILLERS SHOPPING DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Hi Everyone,

Can you believe this weather? Isn’t wonderful to see the sun and smell the aroma of Barbecues in the early evening, summer must be here.

I forgot to mention in the previous posting that we are very privileged to have Dianne Barnden teach for us, but now we are very excited here at Sawmillers to see that she has a quilt pattern in the latest Jenifer Dick book, ‘The Circuit Riders Quilt’. Diane was invited to submit a quilt design, so we are going to hold class after Christmas  featuring her design, so keep a look out for details in forthcoming postings. Congratulations, Dianne.

Well Christmas is fast approaching, we have had a great time here at Sawmillers with our especially bought in novelties disappearing fast, the key rings, block pins etc. have been very popular, we still have a good variety in stock, along with the Olfa Mats, Rulers and Cutters in a kit, this size mat is great for those sewers and crafts people who attend classes and craft and stitching days, as the mat and ruler are easy to carry, not quite so big as the large ones, might be an idea for family or friends to give as a gift.

The quilts we have pictured are all available in kits, they are very easy to make and will be a great gift for beginners through to experienced alike, come and see what is available, don’t forget if you prefer a different border we can change that for you and present it in a box cellophaned and beribboned.

Above is our Heather Bailey ‘POP Garden’ range in the Chunky Rail Fence Design, doesn’t it look stunning, a great gift for younger members of the family, who have the impression that quilts are only available in little prints, how about trying one of these and surprising them, or perhaps make an Apron or Bag, very retro.

So here is Barney, Official Greeter and Number 2 Assistant with Archie Number 3 Assistant (Unpaid), we call them the ‘dogs amongst the daisies’ for obvious reasons, come and see our flowers in the lovely Stonestead garden, sit out side and have tea and scones, and just relax and smell the roses.

Until the next time,

Happy Quilting.

Christmas at Sawmillers

27 Nov

dscf0864

Hi Everyone,

Well, as you can see Christmas has already begun at Sawmillers, there are lots of goodies ideal for quilters and sewers on our tree, and they are all very reasonably priced, we have Quilt Block Pins and Block Charms for bracelets, Mary Engelbreit Pincushions, Quilters and Sewers Key Rings, Block Bookmarks and Notepads, as well as gift wrapped Fat 1/4ers, these would be ideal for Kris Kringle gifts too.

Don’t forget we have kits too, so if you want to send a partner, husband, mother or children up to Sawmillers we can show them our kits and assist in selecting a gift which will all be Secret Squirrel stuff! These are already gift wrapped and be-ribboned too, just the gift tag to add.

I shall be writing another post tomorrow with more ideas for Christmas Gifts.

Until then, Happy Quilting

Sawmillers Sunday Demonstration

26 Nov

dscf0857

Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to do a new post last week, it was so busy at Sawmillers, we had 2 classes taking place on Thursday evening, one over in the tea house and another in Sawmillers. On Friday evening we had the Cupcake Quilt Class, we all had a great time, starting with a Pizza and Pavlova meal at 6.00pm served by Kevin, and then it was upstairs to make the quilt under the expert guidance of Dianne Barnden, it was amazing to see the different fabric combinations, Dianne gave us all great tips to make all aspects of piecing the quilt easier, we stopped at 9.30pm to have a cuppa and then it was upstairs again to finish off as much as we were able, there was lots of fun and plenty of laughs with a great group of ladies. We intend to hold another evening next year so keep an eye out for the details of the quilt we shall be making.

You can see above Dianne taking our free demonstration of Half Square Triangles and Fast Flying Geese, thank you to the Wairarapa ladies who visited us and of course those from Upper Hutt and the Lower Hutt/Wellington area, I think we can say we are less daunted to make either of these, Diane explained how to make them in a very simple and easy to understand manner and the printed sheets she distributed were a great help as everyone was able to take them home and use them for reference.

Having told you about all the happenings at Sawmillers over last weekend I shall be posting again tomorrow, this time with details of our Sawmillers Christmas, as well as details for the Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Festival until then,

Happy Quilting

In Store Demonstrations and Smurf Houses.

13 Nov

dscf08291

Hi Everyone,

In the ‘olden’ days these delightful toadstools were called ‘Smurf‘ houses by my children, they were always on the look out for Gargamel and his cat, here at Sawmillers we just see them as a sign that summer is on its’ way, and seeing them in a shady spot under the trees was too good an opportunity to miss taking a photograph of.

so-far-21

Above and below are examples of what will be demonstrated in Sawmillers on Sunday 23rd November at 1.30pm. above is Fast Flying Geese and below Half Square Triangles, there is no charge for the demonstration, just come along and watch, it is for all skill levels and I am sure it will inspire you to incorporate one of these designs in your next quilt. Why not go over to Stonestead Devonshire Tea House afterwards and enjoy a relaxing cuppa and scone, homemade jam and cream, Scrummy.

Telephone Yvonne 04 526 2517 or email enquiries@sawmillersquiltery.co.nz for details.

Well, as you can see Barney Official Greeter and 2nd Assistant and Archie 3rd Assistant (Unpaid) have decided they like the look of the Chunky Rail Fence Quilt and fabrics, why not call in and see for your self how lovely it is, and you can always say ‘hello’ to the boys, but until the next posting and news

Election Day Special

5 Nov

dscf0296

Hi Everyone,

Well the USA has a new President and it may be New Zealand may have a new Prime Minister on Saturday, so we shall have to wait and see, but to celebrate an event that only occurs every 3 years, Sawmillers is reducing all Fat 1/4ers by a $1.00 per Fat 1/4er on Saturday only.

So why not call in and select some for your stash, or have a look through all our patterns and make a quilt with your purchases or perhaps select some as a gift for a quilting friend.

We are in the process of readying Sawmillers for the festive season, so keep an eye on this newsletter/blog to see when the displays go into Sawmillers.

dscf0259As you can see Number 1 Assistant is waiting to greet you, and may be even unpaid Number 3 Assistant will also be here too.

So until the next time, have a great day,

Happy Quilting

Machine and Hand Quilting Classes.

1 Nov

Hi Everyone,

Well what terrible weather we had here in Te Marua yesterday, but that didn’t deter visitors coming to see us at Sawmillers and also having a Devonshire Tea at Stonestead, it was great meeting quilters from Australia and Christchurch ( Hi Angela.) and also the Greater Wellington region of course.

The cushion pictured is the class sample for the Hand Quilting Class, we are taking registrations for this and it is being held over 2 nights on Thursdays, 13th and 27th November at 7.00pm we only have 2 places left so if you want to participate in this great class email or phone us here at Sawmillers.

If Hand Quilting isn’t your thing why not come to the Machine Quilting Class, this is being held on Thursdays 6th and 20th November at 7.00pm, there are still a few places left, but don’t delay registering as you may miss out and we won’t be holding another course until the New Year, what a frightening two words they are!

Just a reminder that the details for the Stonestead Annual Outdoor Quilt Festival will be posted on the Stonestead blog soon, we are just finalising the details now, but it will be a great day out for everyone.

Have a lovely remainder of the weekend everyone, and until next time,

Happy Quilting.
