A Near Miss for Sawmillers

31 Jan

Hi Everyone,

I along with Bailey and Poppy went up to Sawmillers this morning to collect some paperwork for the quilt festival, and as we rounded the corner this is what we saw!! I have to say this picture looks better than when I arrived as I had forgotten the camera and rushed home to get it, by which time Kevin had made great progress in clearing up the debris.

The first thing I said to Kevin was,’is the shop alright?’ fortunately it was but a few feet more & we would have had ‘tree‘ as part of our fabric display.

I have just heard from Kevin and it is all cleared up, wood chopped ready for the fire in the winter, and I shall make another posting in a few days before the quilt festival.

Until next time

Happy Quilting.

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that we have a group of ladies who meet fortnightly and stitch in the Tea House and also outside if the weather is fine.

Anyone can come, you can also have a Devonshire Tea for lunch, and enjoy the company of other stitchers who are all great, and very giving of their talents.

The first Sawmillers Stitchers group will be on Thursday 10th February 11.00am – 2.00pm

For those who come on Wednesday & Thursday evenings your first night will be Wednesday 9th February and Thursday 10th February 7.00pm – 9.00pm.

Until next time,

Happy Quilting

Baltimore and Dear Jane Worknight.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I had better confirm the date for the first of our Baltimore and Dear Jane work nights, it will be Friday 4th March at 7.00pm, not on Friday 4th February.

If you want more details just contact Sawmillers.

The quilts have come in thick and fast for the Outdoor Quilt Festival, and they are all beautiful, be sure to come along and see them and support a good cause too.

Until next time,

Happy Quilting

Not Long Now.

26 Jan

Hi Everyone,

Well, the time is passing quickly to Sunday 6th February when Stonestead holds the 3rd Annual Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Festival, get those quilts registered, you can scan and email the forms or if it is easier fax the form through to 04 528 3470, that means the entry goes into the catalogue.

Apart from the quilt festival we have the Class Preview Evening on Saturday 12th February at 7.00pm, this is being held in the Tea House and it means you can meet the tutors and see the class samples for the upcoming year, this year is very exciting as we have Sue Daley from Patchwork With Busyfingers teaching at Sawmillers, we shall be announcing more information as the months progress, but register your interest to ensure you have a place.

The years classes are now loaded in the class section of this blog, so go through and look at what is available, we have lots of new tutors this year and exciting quilts and techniques to learn, we have made sure that our class fees are kept at a minimum.

So until next time, and Happy Quilting

We Have A Name.

23 Jan

Hi Everyone,

Well, Beau Summner Bold is home in Brisbane and all is well with Mum and Dad, he weighed in at 8lbs 2ozs.

Everything is under way here for the Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Festival on Sunday 6th February, the entries are coming in along with the challenges, but you still have time to complete your projects and get them here, we would love to have them.

These are some of the Black and Whites we have in stock, ideal for a high contrast designs.

This is a sample of the embroidery pattern  we have by Anne Sutton, I made mine in blue and used the lovely Cosmo Multi Work thread, it is already stranded so there is no fiddling around trying to separate the strands on the skein. I really enjoyed doing this, so now I have to cut the fabric to make the quilt.

Bailey and Poppy are fine and enjoying being inside on this terribly wet and windy day, we shall all be here tomorrow Anniversary Monday, so until next time

Happy Quilting

It’s A Boy!!

18 Jan

Hi everyone,

Just a very quick posting to say Kevin is a ‘Poppa’ for the 4th time, this time his middle son & wife have had their first baby, a beautiful boy just 24 hours old named Beau, unsure if this spelling is correct but all is well and Mum and baby are looking to return home within the next day or so, they live in Brisbane but fortunately have not been affected by the flooding.

I shall post more details as they come through, until next time,

Happy Quilting

Happy New Year

12 Jan

Hi Everyone,

It seems rather late to be wishing everyone a Happy New Year, but Kevin, Bailey, Poppy and myself hope you have all had a great Christmas and New Year and also summer holiday if you have had one.

We had a great Christmas, Kevin had his son, daughter in law and their 3 children for the holiday period and a great time was had by all, he has said how quiet it is now they have returned to Brisbane, the birth of his fourth grandchild is impending and in fact due today, another little Australian and in Brisbane too, this time it is Kevin’s middle son and his wife.

Our house was full of fun with our daughter and grandchild from Wanganui with us along with 3 of her 6 Pomeranians and our sons’ lady for her first Christmas with us and also her sister for Christmas Dinner, we had a lovely time and then we also had Father Kevin to stay at New Year prior to taking a new posting in Burnham.

I hope you have been able to finish some of your projects and that you also received some quilty stuff  from Father Christmas too, I did with gifts of  fabric, books and notions not just from NZ but also UK and USA too, Samantha my daughter in USA gave me the new Jennifer Chiaverini book ‘A Quilters Holiday’ it is lovely and I have almost finished reading it!

Bailey and Poppy are fine although Poppy has been unwell the past week or so and thanks to Beverley and Joan’s loan of a dog crate I have been able to confine her for most of the day, poor Bailey has been very concerned, but he is now a real teenager and is inclined to get a bit rough.

So now the holidays are over and we are looking forward to a new year at Sawmillers with some great events happening, starting with the Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Festival on Sunday 6th February, this our third year so get your quilts registered and into us so we can display them on the day, I know we are always critical of our own work, but we want to be able to showcase every ones abilities so don’t be modest.

If you want more details you can always contact Sawmillers, anyway until next time

Happy Quilting.
