Coast to Coast Merchants Mall

25 Nov

Hi Everyone,

Well, what a busy few days we have had at Sawmillers, Saturday saw Kevin and I driving with packed cars to the Horticultural Hall in Lower Hutt, where we unpacked and set up our booth for the Merchants Mall all very nerve wracking, but at the end of the day, very successful.

It was great to see so many familiar faces and not so familiar too, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my Aide de Compte, Adrienne. We had a fun day with lots of help from the ‘Angels‘ they were always on hand if we needed anything and also kept us supplied with hot and cold drinks.

Monday found me en route to Palmerston North with the car packed up yet again, this time with dancing paraphernalia, I had been invited by Rose City Quilters to speak at their final year meeting, my topic was Ballroom and Latin American dancing dresses.

I was made most welcome by Sue the President and Diane the Secretary as well as Helen, we had a great evening and everyone seemed to enjoy the lively talk and admired the dresses too.

Rose City Quilters have a very active club with very talented members, so I enjoyed the Show and Tell particularly.

This week we now have our Sawmillers Christmas Tree dressed, there are some cute goodies on the tree for quilters gifts, block pins, charms and key rings, along with a display of Jim Shore figurines which you may be aware all have a quilting pattern on them and fat quarter dress packs and Charm Squares too.

I shall finish this and give the puppies their lunch, until next time

Happy Quilting

Redwork & Coast to Coast

18 Nov

Hi Everyone,

This is the latest addition to our stock at Sawmillers, we have a selection of plain cream and white cottons, self stripe as well as cream and white calicos too, also a beautiful Linen/Cotton mix, all of which can be used successfully with the Redwork Patterns we have just received from America, there are teapots, baskets, angels and a lovely quilt pattern combining redwork embroidery with patchwork designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.

We have the Cosmo Stranded Thread in a variety of colours as well as the Multi Work 2 Strand all be Lecien, this thread has had rave reviews in America. Instead of red thread why not try embroidering in Blue or even Green, I am doing one in Blue, as that is my favourite colour, just ask my girls!

If you would like to try this lovely work we have a light box you can borrow to transfer the designs onto the fabric you have purchased from Sawmillers.

We also have these lovely labels in stock, they can be bought from the bolt, but if you only want one, we sell them separately too, ask Yvonne about labels.

This Saturday 20th November is the Coast to Coast event, this is being held at the the Horticultural Hall in Lower Hutt 10.00am – 4.00pm, there is a Show and Tell, Merchants Mall and the guest speaker is Robyn Burgess.

Don’t forget it is that time of the year when we are planning the Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Festival, this is being held on Sunday 6th February 2011, all details can be found on the Stonestead blog or just phone Sawmillers and Yvonne will help you.

This is a great day out for everyone and with such a worthy cause as Te Omanga Hospice receiving the gold coin entry fee. I shall keep you informed regularly either through this blog or the Stonestead blog. Don’t forget we still have a few Challenge Packs available.

We can’t finish this posting without an update on the Official Greeters, as you can see they are quite happy to sit on my kitchen windowsill whilst I prepare dinner!

Until next time

Too Many Puppies Spoil The Broth!

4 Nov

Hi Everyone,

Still no excuse for not updating this sooner, apart from having 5 month and 4 month old Bichon Frise puppies, suddenly everything comes flooding back from when my children were toddlers, making sure rubbish bins are put on something high, that everything that is found automatically goes in a mouth, that sneakers and other shoes are not safe, nor are any forms of paper especially from important places like banks!!

Having said that they are a delight and whilst I have wonderful memories of Barney and Archie that can never be replaced, these two little characters are becoming my dear friends and they go everywhere with me, not just to Sue Burnett to deliver quilts but also at DancZport where Kevin and I teach dancing, the children love them.

Onto quilty stuff, for those who haven’t been to see us for awhile we have more Riley Blake fabrics in, these are ‘Sweet Divinity’, ‘Domestic Diva’ and ‘Love Birds’ these ranges can all be mixed and matched and the green and brown together are delicious.

There are lots more new patterns in stock with more arriving any day from USA, talking of which we would like to congratulate Dianne Barnden one of our tutors here atSawmillers, her quilt gained 2nd Place at a quilt show in USA, we think that is wonderful.

Until next time, Happy Quilting
