More New Arrivals and The Very Hungry Caterpillar

25 Jul

Hi Everyone,

Well, I suspect everyone is waiting for the storm to arrive, if you listen to weather reports it is imminent, but I have to say it won’t affect us here in Te Marua, because despite the weather predictions we are going to be toasty warm over the entire weekend, not just in Sawmillers but at the Tea House too.

Featured in these two photographs is the new range we have received from Andover called Old English Rose it is designed by one of my favourite designers Gail Kessler, her shop is called Ladyfingers and is in the depths of the Pennsilvanian countryside at a village called Oley.We were fortunate to meet Gail at her shop and at quilt market and her talent knows no bounds.

We have also placed an order with Andover for their latest childrens fabric, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, this has been such a worldwide success that it won’t arrive until the end of August, as the manufacturers have had to do reprints, the poor agents in Australia are tearing their hair out trying to organise orders for shops here in New Zealand and Australia.

If you would like to go onto the Wait List for this range you can contact us either by coming into Sawmillers, emailing us at or telephone us on 04 526 2517, we anticipate stocking the whole range, the example above is the panel we have on order.

My 2nd Assistant Barney is flushed with his celebrity status now he has gone global, but I have made the necessary arrangements for his next session at the canine beauty parlour so we await in anticipation for the beginning of August when he should be looking most handsome once more.

We wish everyone a wonderful weekend and Happy Quilting

Barney Goes Global and New Fabric

17 Jul

Hi Everyone,

Because of organising classes this week we are a bit late getting this post written, but we still have lots going on here at Sawmillers and Stonestead Devonshire Teas.

Firstly the fabric featured above in the display and the close up is called ‘Flowers For Emma’ it is designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs for Henry Glass, it is so pretty, we have the entire range which is in pink, blue, green and a lovely mushroomy brown. We have Fat 1/4 ers cut in it and we are also looking at cutting Sawmillers Strips ( Jelly Rolls) in the near future,a very reasonably priced fabric and would suit all types of patterns.

I must make mention of the Block Charms that have just arrived from America, a super gift for a quilter to put on a neck chain or charm bracelet, come and see mine I wear it every day in the shop and feel lost if I forget to put it on, gives me warm memories of quilt market. We shall be making up gift packs for quilters for Christmas so no doubt these shall be incorporated.

Don’t forget our Loyalty Card scheme, it doesn’t take long to accumulate the number required and you get a reduction on your next purchase, quite a bargain. We have just had a new facility loaded onto our EFTPOS terminal which means we can send goods out without the cardholder being present, so if you have run out of your favourite fabric and require more at short notice, give Yvonne a call and we shall see if we can help, not quite mail order yet, but we are working on it.

If you come and see us at Sawmillers and decide to visit the Tea House this is what you get, your own tray with beautiful English China a choice of scones and teas and lots of personal attention from the ‘boss.’

As you can see by the title of todays post Barney goes global this week with his picture in the latest issue of the NZ Quilter due out over the next couple of days, have a look and see how good he looks, in keeping with our latest arrival of Christmas fabrics, Barney is doing his mid year Santa bit.

Also above is a picture of the other member of our canine family, this Archie, who even though he hasn’t an official title he is at the quiltery every day, but he resides in the car all day so is a bit anti social, we are hopeful he will venture out once the weather improves.

We hope everyone has a great weekend, don’t forget the classes we are holding, the first beginners class is booked up and we have a wait list for the next two courses, but there are spaces available on the the others, but they are filling fast so to avoid disappointment don’t leave it too late.

Until next time, Happy Quilting.

Christmas in July.

10 Jul

Good Morning Everyone,

I know it is frightening to see Christmas fabrics in Sawmillers, but our theory is, that you must all be thinking of your Christmas projects and if we can go someway to inspiring you then that is what we are here for. The fabric pictured above are poinsettias in the centre in reds and greens and on either side are the golds on creams, above these is a delightful festive print of green holly and red berries on a black background, along with a stunning red with gold snowflakes and leaves,  these are by Hoffman and Makower, and available in fat quarters too.

This close up shot is also Makower and has a Florentine feel to it, it has been used in the table runner which is being made in the Beginners Class, all the Makower Christmas fabric range are co-ordinated so can be mixed and matched for your project, perhaps a lap quilt to drape over the sofa during the Christmas season, or a smaller project such as a wallhanging or table mats for Christmas dinners, they are really stunning and the clarity of the colours exceptional. We are intending to hold a Christmas Wreath class in August/September in which these fabrics can be utilised, contact Yvonne for details and registration.

Pictured here is a small selection of the Hoffman Christmas prints that have just arrived, these are a limited range so don’t take too long to before deciding as we are unable to guarantee re-orders, they too are available as fat quarters.

A note to those who visit us and also go over to Stonestead for Devonshire Teas, we now have quilting magazines over in the Tea House, so you can browse through them whilst relaxing over your tea and freshly baked scone, then if you become inspired you can come over to Sawmillers and select the fabrics for your project. What better way to spend a few hours away from the everyday chores that always need to be done.

Well, I shall finish this newsletter and try and complete the sample quilt for displaying at Sawmillers, before finishing though, I have to make mention that this newsletter is updated at least once sometimes twice a week, we don’t have a policy of informing everyone individually, except if there is new stock or interesting news, we don’t want to bombard our piecers, quilters stitchers etc. with emails, as we feel everyones lives are so busy and we want them to enjoy the newsletter and not find it a chore.

Until next time, Happy Quilting

Oops, forgot to mention, look out for our latest advertisment in NZ Quilter, as my 2nd Assistant, Barney has gone national!

Just A Sample

8 Jul

Hi Everyone,

We all thought that winter had arrived a few weeks ago, but seeing the snow on the hills around Sawmillers and hearing of customers who had white gardens really drove home the fact that winter hadn’t arrived until this weekend and it was ideal piecing and quilting weather.

We have had lots of deliveries of new fabrics, seven ranges in all, they are all scrumptious and cover all tastes, I shan’t go into great details in this post as I know a lot of you are either away for the holidays or looking after children, but suffice it know I have taken lots of photographs and shall be showing them in future weeks, as I said to my daughter in Delaware I have just found the close up button, so you will see an example of how it works.

Pictured is the new Martha Negley range called Packed Mums these are for Free Spirit and the colours are incredible, blues, pinks, greens to name a few, we have blenders to go with them too, so come and have a look and be inspired to make something bold and beautiful!

I shall finish this post now and shall contact you all when the new extensive post goes ‘live’ next week with details of the new arrivals, don’t forget the classes we are taking registrations for, the samples are on display at Sawmillers for you to see, and a wait list has begun for the beginners class already.

Have a great school holiday with your families and Happy Quilting.

The ‘Bosses’ Birthday and New Patterns

3 Jul

Hi Everyone,

Just to say we have just had another delivery of patterns and rulers, this time they are Cozy Quilt patterns, Sawmillers Strips can be used for all of these designs, also we have a limited quantity of the Strip Tube Rulers to use with them, there are six designs in all and a book using Layer Cakes.

The other new arrival are patterns from Lorraine Torrence these are Shirt, Jacket and Waistcoat patterns made by piecing fabrics, they are stunning and we were lucky to be able to see them on Lorraines stand at Houston.

I shall be posting pictures of some of these patterns over the next day or so along with details of the contents of the six boxes of fabric that have just arrived, very exciting.

As the title of todays post suggests it is Kevins’ birthday, this is the first one he has celebrated since we opened Sawmillers and despite him saying it is just another day we all know it is a time of celebration, Happy Birthday, Kevin.

Until next time, Happy Quilting
